Monday afternoon our happy 7th graders arrived at Rancho el Chorro! They spent the rest of the day getting to know camp and choosing their nature names for the week. Tonight after a great pasta dinner, students participated in fun and games or went on a night hike under a clear, starry sky.
Today our 7th graders either went to the Ocean Adventure to Morro Bay and the tidepools or had hiking adventures at camp. Squid dissection, hiking the hills, astronomy, and the wonder of water were all topics today!
We got started this morning with a pancake and sausage breakfast, before getting busy today with Ocean Adventure and hikes around camp. Kids out on the all day Ocean Adventure got to tidepool, investigate Morro Rock, and explore the estuary. Those at camp learned about the Wonder of Water, Earth Rocks, the Hill Hike, and GEMS (global energy meteorology sustainability). Night program consisted of a special guest – Wink, the great horned owl! Students were able to get an up close look before heading out to campfire for songs and roasting marshmallows. Tomorrow is our last full day at camp, and all students will be doing hikes around camp.
Today we woke up bright and early for a bagel, oatmeal, and yogurt breakfast followed by a morning and afternoon full of activities! Students learned about the wonder of water, discovered insects around camp, learned about our weather and sustainable/renewable energy, astronomy (ask about the bubble when they get home!), and hiked through different plant communities. Before dinner, students were able to practice for their skit. We had a delicious dinner of tostados before students headed out to get ready for campfire. Skit night was a hit! Everyone got the chance to be on stage as well as participate in songs.
We are preparing this morning to depart camp! Students had a great breakfast of french toast before cleaning out their cabins and packing up for home! Our wonderful naturalists took the kids through their last program here at Rancho before a hot dog BBQ lunch. Students will board the buses around 1:30pm and head for home! We will arrive around 3:30pm. Students will have their cell phones on the bus ride home. However, some batteries may be dead from being on all week. Please call the school for updates on bus arrival time.
Please plan accordingly – make sure your student has a ride at the bus arrival time. If you sent medication with your student, it must be picked up by an adult.
